Centre A is delighted to announce Rituals for Unstable Ground, the culminating exhibition of Centre A’s artist residency, a Blessing & a Curse & a Practice featuring new works by Xinwei Che, Romi Kim, and Ghinwa Yassine. Through distinct approaches to material, memory, and place, the exhibition considers how we live and make within conditions of precarity, and how practices of returning, remembering, and attending can help us stay with what remains unresolved.

Beginning with Xinwei Che's guided tour of the Fault Lines installation, this workshop moves between geological and lived forms of tension. We will look at basic fault-line types as ways of understanding pressure, slippage, and rupture in both land and daily creative life. Participants will trace cracks on surfaces in Sun Wah building, then return to read these marks together and share reflections. No art-making experience is needed, only a willingness to observe, reflect, and connect.

As part of the Explore + Create Family program, Gordon Smith Gallery invites artist Xinwei Che to host a hands-on clay work inspired by her artwork 'To Hold Myself' which is featured in the current exhibition 'From The Ground.' Cineworks is proud to present a free screening of artist and filmmaker Xinwei Che’s feature film, Laying Ground (2022, 78 minutes). Clay comes from deep geological time. Long before it is excavated, clay has existed as mineral particles, eroded from the earth’s crust over billions of years. In Laying Ground, Xinwei Che, uses clay to transform the ground of an institutional hallway. Held by a patient static camera, Laying Ground explores cinematic time as an active process of engagement, something we actively do as viewers, instead of as a backdrop for the narrative to unfold.

Treasure Hill has a complex history as a strategic military location, a post-war squatter village on the brink of demolition, and the revitalized mixed-use art village it is today. Artist-in-Residence, Xinwei Che, pays tribute to this site by pinching hundreds of bowls from local clay and offering them to the ground that has witnessed the unexpected turns of human history.
